If you want to move away from your slothful ways and are looking for, shall we say, "entry level" |

3 |
If you could walk a mile or two with a light load without needing crutches the next day |
4 |
If you actually enjoy a day hike with some elevation gain and have no trouble with a fully loaded pack |
5 |
This is top level strenuous hiking; steep and often exposed terrain to be expected. Miles per day will vary, but expect to be hiking for 10+ hours a day carrying a heavy pack with specialized gear. Fording rivers, post holing in snow, and scrambling up/down mountains may be expected. Elevation gain/loss may be greater than 4,000' per day. Previous outdoor experience is required. Physical activity preceding any WI trips at this level need to be both strength and cardio focused. |
